Most standard Australian dining tables sit at 74–76 cm high, which means a seat height of around 45–48 cm tends to work well. If you're buying dining chairs with arms, check that the arms clear the table apron, or you'll spend every dinner angling sideways. For smaller spaces or apartments, armless side chairs are your friend: they slide further under the table and keep the room feeling open without sacrificing a seat.
