Stools & Bar Stools
Make the most of your kitchen island, home bar or outdoor dining space with our bar and counter stools. They add comfortable, easy-to-pull-up seating for casual meals, coffee chats, alfresco dining and hosting.
Choose the feel you want, from swivel bar stools for effortless conversation to upholstered counter stools for extra comfort. Prefer a cleaner profile? Try backless stools that tuck in neatly when you’re done.
Big style for small spaces
Short on space? counter height stools are a simple way to add seating without the footprint of a full dining setup. Many counter height bar stools slide under counters to keep walkways clear, especially in a compact kitchen.
Pick your perfect material
Our modern counter stools come in a range of materials designed for everyday use.
- Wood: Warm, durable, and timeless.
- Bouclé: Soft texture with a cozy, modern look.
- Leather: Easy to wipe down and made to age beautifully.
- Rattan: Light, airy style that suits indoor spaces and pairs well with outdoor bar stools looks for an alfresco feel.
FAQ
The main difference is seat height, which should match the surface you’re using.
- Counter stools: 24”–27” seat height, best for standard 36” kitchen counters and islands.
- Bar stools: 28”–33” seat height, best for 40”–42” bar tops and pub tables.
In day-to-day terms, counter stools tend to feel more casual and family-friendly, while bar stools suit elevated bars and bar tables and entertaining setups.
Quick buying tips:
- Measure first: Aim for a 10–12 inch gap between the seat and the surface for comfortable legroom.
- If you have younger kids and older family members: Counter-height stools are usually easier (and safer) to climb.
Swivel counter stools offer effortless mobility, making it easy to turn and chat without dragging. They're fantastic for social kitchen islands, adding a playful human touch to your seating experience.
The best defense is proactive care: Ensure your counter stool legs have protective felt pads or glides. Regularly check these pads for wear and replace them as needed to keep your floors pristine. For further protection, also consider the distance between your bar stools to prevent accidental bumps during movement.
