Consider candles made from natural, non-toxic ingredients. They produce minimal soot and are free from harmful compounds found in traditional paraffin wax. Choose candles scented with essential oils rather than synthetic fragrances which release toxins.
Scented candles are generally safe when enjoyed in moderation and with proper ventilation. Excessive burning, or use by anyone with respiratory sensitivities, can pose risks. To keep it safe, burn them in a well-ventilated space, and extinguish the flame with a snuffer instead of blowing it out to prevent smoke and soot.
For the best results, burn your candle for no more than four hours at a time and always allow it to cool completely before relighting. The first burn should melt the entire top layer of wax to the edges to prevent a memory ring. Trim the wick to ¼ inch before each use to ensure a clean, even burn. Follow common guidelines, like the “3-hour candle rule”, and discontinue use when only ¼ to ½ inch of wax remains to prevent the container from overheating and keep your candle burning safely.
