Some coffee tables hold your drinks. A large coffee table holds the room together. Whether you're styling a spacious sectional, creating a landing spot for books and candles, or simply trying to stop the remote from disappearing into the void, an oversized coffee table gives everyday living a little more breathing room.
Our oversized coffee tables are designed with proportion in mind. Think generous surfaces, thoughtful storage, and materials that can handle everything from weeknight takeout to last-minute hosting. From warm solid wood finishes to sleek marble and easy-care engineered wood, these pieces balance durability with a refined presence. Choose from round, rectangular, and square silhouettes in sizes between 130–150 cm in length, suited for open-plan living rooms and larger seating layouts. Because when the proportions feel right, the whole room settles into itself.
The two-thirds rule is your starting point: a large coffee table should measure roughly two-thirds the length of your sofa. For most open-concept rooms, that puts you somewhere between 120–150cm. Leave at least 40–45 cm of clearance on all sides so there's enough walking space and the room still breathes
Between 40–45 cm is the sweet spot: level with, or just below, your sofa seat cushions. This makes it easy to reach from a seat without leaning awkwardly forward. If your sofa sits particularly high or low, adjust accordingly. The table should feel natural to use, not just look right in a photo.
Rectangular and square tables suit longer sofas and bigger rooms where surface area is the priority. Round and oval shapes work well in open-plan layouts or rooms with heavy foot traffic—no sharp corners, better flow, and they tend to feel less imposing despite their size. If you have a sectional sofa, a round table with a diameter of at least 90 cm holds its own visually without crowding the space.
Less, but considered. A large surface is an invitation to overdo it, but resist it. A tray to group smaller objects, one or two books with intention behind them, and something with height (a bowl, a sculptural object, a plant) is usually enough. The table itself should still be visible. If it disappears under stuff, it stops being a design choice and starts being a storage problem.
