Sustainability 2025: Furniture, Made Responsibly

Sue-Jane | Jan 22, 2026

At Castlery, sustainability underpins every question we ask and every decision we make. How do we create furniture that feels good today without compromising tomorrow? And in 2025, that question shaped more of our decisions than ever.

Every prototype we debated, every material we tested, every operational shift we made carried the same intention: to design in a way that respects both the home it enters and the world it comes from.

What follows is our year in full clarity: the choices, the milestones, and the impact that brought us closer to a future where thoughtful design and responsibility live side by side.

Responsible sourcing that goes further

Sustainable furniture starts long before a product enters your home. It begins in forests, mills, workshops, and factories; places many customers never see, but that shape every design decision we make.

This year, we strengthened our responsible sourcing approach by formalizing our Responsible Sourcing Policy and Supplier Code of Conduct across all our operating markets (US, UK, Australia, Singapore, and Canada). This gave us a consistent framework to ensure materials are responsibly sourced, workers are treated fairly, and suppliers meet rigorous environmental and social standards.

We also expanded our materials portfolio in ways we’ve been quietly working on for years:

  • Wider use of OEKO-TEX®-certified fabrics free from harmful chemicals

  • Continued growth of certifications across product lines, including GoodWeave® for our rugs and Golden Care® finish for our outdoor collections, Rio and Isla

  • Launch of our TENCEL™ bedding collection, a naturally soft and sustainably produced material

  • Ongoing progress toward our 2026 target of 100% responsibly sourced wood

Every material has a story, and we’re rewriting ours to ensure it’s one rooted in sustainability, accountability, and long-term impact. Expect even more responsibly sourced materials to define our 2026 product lineup—because this is only the beginning.

Smarter packaging, smaller footprint

We’ve always believed sustainability doesn’t end at the product. Packaging matters deeply. It’s the first thing customers touch, and too often, the first thing that gets thrown away. So we doubled down on rethinking the entire experience.

2025 marked the year our circular packaging work made its national TV debut. But the bigger milestone? We reduced expanded polystyrene (EPS)—also widely known as styrofoam—by up to 30%, a meaningful move in an industry still dependent on difficult-to-recycle plastics.

This wasn’t a final achievement, but a prelude for the even more ambitious packaging overhaul coming in 2026, where we plan to close the loop further and design smarter pathways for post-use materials.

The goal is simple: packaging that protects your furniture without harming the planet it lives on.

Carbon neutral, one step at a time

This was a big one for us. Behind the scenes, it meant months of audits, engineering shifts, energy assessments, and tough internal conversations about what “responsibility” actually looks like for a global brand.

In 2025, we achieved carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and 2 emissions.

To get there, we invested in:

  • Energy-efficient upgrades across operations (E.g., only using LED lights across all our facilities)

  • Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)

It wasn’t a checkbox exercise. It was a commitment to redesign our footprint with the same care we put into designing a sofa’s perfect curve.

Carbon neutrality isn't our finish line. It’s our starting point for deeper reductions across the value chain.

Bringing sustainability to life

In 2025, we expanded our engagement efforts through initiatives that brought sustainability into everyday habits: Earth Hour, Earth Day, and our own Sustainability Month, where customers could experience firsthand how every material choice and design decision makes a tangible difference.

These events were opportunities to bring employees, customers, and communities into the fold, to tell the stories behind our materials and our ongoing challenges.

Because sustainable furniture isn’t built in isolation, it’s built into conversation.

Sustainability you can feel

The furniture world loves talking about sustainability, but we wanted people to actually feel it. So, this year, we built something permanent at our showroom in Singapore: the Castlery Sustainability Experiential Zone.

Think of it as a behind-the-scenes pass into how sustainable furniture comes alive. A space where customers can touch the fabrics we use in our products that are safe from harmful chemicals, feel responsibly sourced wood, and gain a deeper understanding of how sustainability is embedded into every decision we make, at every step of the process.

We centered the zone around our five pillars—our internal north stars that guide every product we bring into your home:

  • Designed to last

  • Responsibly sourced

  • Safe from harmful chemicals

  • Climate action

  • Waste reduction

The zone even made its way onto the Singapore Design Week Sustainability Lifestyle Trail, Design in Situ, introducing business-to-business partners, designers, and industry peers to our sustainability philosophy.

Homes that feel good, without costing the future

Sustainability is a commitment we renew every year, in every design meeting, with every supplier handshake, and every time someone brings home one of our pieces. If 2025 was about building momentum, 2026 is about acceleration

Our focus for the coming year is clear: to deepen responsibility, sharpen transparency, and create furniture that feels good to live with and good to believe in—because furniture should make your home better, not cost the future.
