What dining table shape is best for small homes or flats?

Round and oval tables work beautifully in smaller rooms. They save on space, allow easier flow around the table, and create a cosy, social atmosphere—ideal for compact UK homes.

How do I choose the right dining table size for my space?

Start by measuring your dining area, ideally 91 cm of clearance between the table edge and any walls, so chairs can glide and guests can circle your table without bruising their shins. The standard height for most dining tables falls within the range of 71 to 76 cm, and about 25 to 30 cm of legroom clearance.

How do I choose a dining table for a small apartment?

For smaller homes, prioritise visual lightness and flexibility. Round or compact rectangular dining tables help avoid visual bulk. Extendable designs are ideal if you occasionally host guests. Slim legs, lighter finishes, and clean silhouettes also help a space feel more open without sacrificing function.

What material is best for a dining table?

Solid wood dining tables remain the most popular choice in UK for their durability and warmth. Oak and walnut are especially favoured for their grain and longevity. Engineered wood and veneer options offer a more budget-friendly, low-maintenance alternative, while stone or glass tops lean more modern but require more upkeep.
